Across India, groups of men wait on the side of the road for employment, These places are called Labour Chowks. The Labour Chowk resonates with the contemporary condition of precarity, producing “a microcosm of the free market where workers, armed with their tools and their luck compete for customers to take their pick.” (Hafeez 2016).
David employed some of these workers to construct a set of bleachers which were then sat on by viewers in a gallery to watch the video of the labour involved in the bleachers making.
