We outsourced our residency in India to a virtual employee, through New Delhi based Business Process Outsourcing company ‘Virtual Employee’. As we left India, Ashish Sharma began a period of employment as International Artist in Residence. He worked to fulfil the residency’s objectives and delivered his results to us and our sponsors through Skype conversations, mobile phone photographs and reports sent via email.
We mentored Ashish as he set up classes to teach Hindi basics to African migrants, organised an arts and crafts initiative within a Muslim school in a predominantly Hindi neighbourhood and provided educational advice for a group of gambling teens.
Ashish has a background in science and extensive call centre experience, but no art training. During his residency he confided he wanted to become an artist.
